About Fermador
In 1994, when we founded Rom Trading Company, the Romanian poultry market was dominated by imports and producers with limited quality control capabilities. We saw the opportunity to build an integrated system that would allow us to track every stage of production—from the feed given to the birds to the finished product reaching the consumer.
The first years meant learning the specifics of the industry and building trust with our first clients. In 2000, we took the first step towards vertical integration by acquiring the hatchery in Războieni. This was followed by the broiler farm in Henci in 2001, and then the modern slaughterhouse in Podu Iloaiei in 2008—a greenfield investment that allowed us to apply the latest available technologies at that time.
Each investment was calculated to bring us closer to the main goal: complete control of the production chain. Today, we manufacture our own feed in a facility with a capacity of 45,000 tonnes annually, raise birds in our own farms with an annual capacity of 10 million birds, process over 24,000 tonnes of products annually in the slaughterhouse, and distribute with our own fleet to the network of stores and partners.
This evolution has taught us that in the food industry, consistent quality is achieved only through direct control over all variables that can influence the final product. It’s not about perfection, but about predictability and the ability to quickly identify any deviation from established standards.
Our Mission
Vertical integration in the food industry is not an end in itself, but a means to achieve complete traceability and control over quality. By producing our own feed, we control exactly what nutrients the birds receive and in what proportions. The Breeding Farm and the Hatchery Station ensure us healthy day-old chicks, which are destined to arrive at our own growing farms, where we ensure growth conditions according to animal welfare standards and monitor their condition daily.
Processing in our own slaughterhouse allows us to apply procedures according to the assumed standards and ISO 9001, ISO 22000, IFS Food certifications, from receiving live birds to packaging the finished product, eliminating cross-contamination risks that can occur and guaranteeing the production of high-quality products. Distribution with our own fleet ensures thermal balance is maintained and products are delivered to sales points within planned deadlines.
This approach generates higher costs in the short term, but offers long-term stability by reducing dependency on external suppliers and the ability to react quickly to changes in demand or to technical issues that may arise in any link of the chain.
Responsibility for the products we market also includes assuming the costs of this integrated system. The end customer benefits from complete traceability—they can know exactly which farm the product comes from, what feed the bird was fed, when it was processed, and under what conditions it was transported to the store.
